BY GARY HILL
They got around
went places
did things
got things done
Left East St. Louis Left New York
his mom had a little yellow house his mom had little
graduated from High School quit school
studied relentlessly studied relentlessly
innovated innovated
a miracle of beauty a miracle of beauty
conquered the world conquered the world
died at 65, loved & hated died at 64, thrived on hate
never practiced for a set practiced night and day
range was too focused range was too focused
totally spontaneous worked with probabilities
Maybe that’s the difference.
About The Author
Gary Hill was born in Princeton, Indiana, and raised in East St. Louis, Illinois. After school, I worked in research in molecular biology at St. Louis U. I co-authored about 20 peer reviewed research papers in national and international journals, most of which were on the microbiology and primary productivity of the lakes of the Central Amazon. I now spend my time at my small water laboratory, where I write short stories and poems in the mornings. I won a Hackney Literary Award for a short story, and also won the Yosemite Writers Conference in short story and poetry. I've published in print and online magazines. I've been reading my stories and poems on public radio for about five years.
